I don't know how to explain the theme...but there are elements in it that...just look at some of the pictures.

We have some marking on the body...fake "hair" bows....CL's bangs...thought she dyed her hair again.
Dara got herself a cute headwrap...and markings and a...drum.

There are a lot of things going on, and so many elements you can talk about. However one thing that stood out was...well...I'm not African, nor do I have any sort of extensive knowledge in any of the various cultures that are housed under the African unmbrella*....however...This entire shoot...was giving me Africa. From the bongos, to the headwraps to the markings. If not African, it feels like there is pull from some (for lack of a better term) native culture (Once again not well versed in many African Cultures...but I don't know any that did markings like that). And folks...that is slightly/kind of/sort of/but no really problematic. To make a generalized idea of a culture (and not even just one, but to lump many together to make this...assumption) and then make a fashion statement out of it...
Messy.
There are just so many things happening, from the way they are dressed, to the items that they used as accessories (I skipped pics like the one of Dara holding the gourd), to CL's greasy looking clip on bangs...it's just a lot.
So what is going to happen now? Well...they are going to get dragged by the "SJW's" (a term that is to belittle people who call out the shit that ain't kosher)...fans may or may not try to justify it, and say they look cool. Talk about cultural appropriation (which this is).
At least they looked cute in some of these pics.
*We tend to forget that not everything that is African is done any every part of the continent. That there are unique countries and cultures that exist in Africa. I may not know them, but at least I know that African is not a country...
